Dream Chaser. He's back & better than ever!

This August, Ty Hall will ride his 17th Leadville Trail 100 MTB Race!  It will also be his 5th year starting the race in last place, as the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation “Dream Chaser”. The Dream Chaser is an impressive fundraising effort where racers & supporters pledge dollars for every rider that Hall passes on race day. Luckily, Ty Hall knows a few things about challenging rides!

Last October Hall finished 4th in his age group, in the infamous LA RUTA DE LOS CONQUISTADORES!  A challenging 3-day stage race that travels through mud infested rainforests and over 12,000-foot volcanoes, crossing from one side of Costa Rica to the other. It has a reputation as one of the most challenging mountain bike races on earth!

More recently he returned from an epic 3-week road bike tour of France and Northern Italy that included climbing 160,000 vertical feet and took him over some of the famed Tour de France climbs including Alpe d'Huez and Le Mont Ventoux.

Now his next big challenge will involve passing more than 1400 other riders over the LT100 MTB course, better known as the Race Across the Sky!  For many, that would seem the most harrowing part of the ride, but for Hall it actually comes from the pressure that he himself created last year, when he raised almost $75,000!  “I just want to go out there and ride as hard and as fast as I can, and raise as much money as possible for the Legacy Foundation.  It was so successful last year, but I want us to raise even more money and try and beat our total from last year.”

The Legacy Foundation has become an integral part of the Leadville and Lake Co. community since it was created in 2002 by Leadville Trail 100 race founders Ken Chlouber and Merilee Maupin.  The purpose of the Foundation is to support the needs of Leadville and build a better, brighter tomorrow for the Leadville, Lake Co. community.

They do this by blasting open the doors of opportunity by awarding a $2000 scholarship to every Lake Co High School graduate choosing to go on to any form of higher education.  They also offer grant funding to programs and initiatives working to improve the quality of life for the local Leadville community, funding such projects as the Mineral Belt Trail, Cloud City Wheelers bike club, Tabor Opera House Preservation fund, Leadville/Lake Co. Economic Development Corporation and Lake Co. Search & Rescue.
