Summer 2021 Recap

Somehow, summer has come and gone! The leaves have changed, the mountains have seen their first snow, and we can’t help but reflect back on what was an insanely fun event season.

After having to cancel our 2020 season, Ken and Merilee were anxiously awaiting those Leadville Race Series start lines. In June, we welcomed our Leadville family back for the first event of the season- The Leadville Race Series Marathon and Heavy Half, followed by the Silver Rush 50 Run and MTB, Stage Race and then the coveted Leadville Trail 100 MTB and Run.

Ty Hall, toed the line for the 7th time as the LT100 MTB Dream Chaser. His race started like any other year. He was passing people while getting cheers along the way. Then came powerline…..three words- full. yard. sale. He took a pretty significant tumble and unfortunately ended up having to backtrack up the infamous climb to gather his belongings and bike. In true Ty form, he battled back! After a crash and many mechanical issues, Ty finished in 9:06:39. He passed 1,178 athletes and raised $117,000! THANK YOU, Ty!

BRAND NEW THIS YEAR, we introduced a Dream Chaser for the LT100 Run, Rodrigo Jimenez. Before this year, Rodrigo, a Leadville local, has completed the LT100 Run 6 times and the LRS Leadman Competition 6 times. In 2019, he approached the Legacy Foundation about wanting to take on the challenge. With events cancelled in 2020, this was his year to shine! After thinking through how it would work, he decided that simply starting last wouldn’t be enough. Rodrigo took on the challenge of starting 2.5 hours after all other runners! This guy is FAST. Along with his amazing family/crew, our team was able to follow him throughout the 100 mile journey. What a blast it was! After doing the LT100 Run 6 times, Rodrigo has his race day completely dialed. He was at aid stations within minutes of his predictions. He was calm, cool and collected….the whole race. It only took Rodrigo 22:01 to complete the race giving him a chip time of 19:30:16. He finished 6th place overall (out of 680 runners). Rodrigo raised over $75,000 in his inaugural year as the LT100 Run Dream Chaser! THANK YOU, Rodrigo!

We couldn’t be more grateful to have spent the summer with our Leadville family! Until next season!
