You didn’t finish under 12 hours, which means you didn’t get your buckle.  Well you won’t be the first and you definitely won’t be the last. 

This August, Ty Hall will ride his 17th Leadville Trail 100 MTB Race!  It will also be his 5th year starting the race in last place, as the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation “Dream Chaser”. The Dream Chaser is an impressive fundraising effort where racers & supporters pledge dollars for every rider that Hall passes on race day. Luckily, Ty Hall knows a few things about challenging rides!

Carl Miller - A Man of Service

Many of you know the Legacy Foundation was born out of the LT100 “Race Across the Sky”.  Created by Ken Chlouber & Merilee Maupin it gave racers a formal pathway to support the local community & help build a better, brighter tomorrow for Leadville. What many don’t know is that the Legacy Foundation has a ‘small but mighty’ Board of Directors.  In profiling the Board, we want to share something of the individuals behind the Foundation & appreciate their work – all of which makes our impact possible.

Carl Miller has been a member of the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation since its inception in 2002. He is a third generation Leadville local with three succeeding generations still living here in town. He was an underground electrician at the Climax mine for nearly three decades and once survived a 14,000-volt electric shock in a life-threatening mining accident….

We are so excited to welcome our new Executive Director, Veronica Rimbert to the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation.  Please join us in welcoming her, we are thrilled to have her on our team!

Our purpose remains the same, --- serving our community and sharing Leadville’s grit, guts, and determination with our Leadville Trail 100 family. Now that all encompassing goal --- changing lives. Being better, stronger, more determined, never quitting. Taking everything learned in Leadville and applying that to family--- kids, wives, husbands, ---jobs, relationships, and community---a life built on character. We know we’ve changed thousands of lives. Consequently, better homes, better families, better workplaces and hopefully a better America.  The foundation for all this is singular, ---YOU! We thank you, we hold you close.

"When you cross the finish line at Leadville, Merilee greets you with a hug, a medal and a 'welcome home'.  It’s that last part, the 'welcome home' that always puts a lump in my throat.  Every damn time.  The support and friendship from our Leadville 100 family . . . Ken, Merilee, the runners, the crews, the volunteers . . . has enriched our lives more than we could ever repay.  Our support of the Leadville Trail Legacy 100 Foundation and the great work they do for the kids and families in the Leadville community is one small way for us to give back.  Looking forward to another “welcome home” in August 2018!"

Dear Leadville Trail 100 Family,

   35 years ago you came to Leadville to help an economically devastated and struggling town and to test your resolve and grit over 100 miles against what most said couldn't be done.  The mountains were too high and too steep.  The oxygen was nonexistent.  Cats couldn't even live here.  Well, you did it.  You climbed the mountains.  You found air where there was none.  You finished that 100 miles of Colorado's highest and toughest.  And, you did it in less than 30 hours. And too, cats do quite well here.  You adopted Leadville and Leadville adopted you.  We became family.  We, Ken & Merilee, were blessed to be your mother, father, brother, sister.  Ken ran with you.  Finished with you.  And occasionally didn't make the 100 miles with you.  Merilee was there with you and for you, your family, your crews, all the way; never leaving the finish line until all the chicks were back in the nest.  She held your babies, petted your puppies and bandaged that scraped knee or elbow, while Ken told you to "rub some dirt on it".

   Well, we're back....
