Dream Chaser returns to DIG DEEP in 2018.

The Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation announces the return of the 2018 Dream Chaser. 

Ty Hall, Leadville local and 16-time finisher of the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race is back to start this year’s race in last place.  He will then DIG DEEP all day to pass as many riders as possible, to raise money and awareness for the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation. 

“It’s a great opportunity and a fun way for me to help support a local organization” was Hall’s response when asked why he does it.  “The Legacy Foundation is all about Leadville, all the money they raise stays right here in Lake Co”.   And he would know. As owner of the Tennessee Pass Cookhouse, Nordic Center & Sleep Yurts since 1994, Ty has seen the ways the Legacy Foundation has helped support the town.

In the last 3 years as the Dream Chaser, Hall has passed around 1400 other riders on race day.  “I feel personally responsible for the money raised for the Dream Chaser, because my efforts on the day obviously have a big impact on the final result.  In past years it has gotten pretty big with others coming forward to donate or match the amount raised, that makes it even more rewarding for me”.

Ken Chlouber, founder of the Leadville Trail 100 and the Legacy Foundation shared this about the announcement, “it is really great to have Ty riding for us again this year.  He has a long history with these races, and because he is willing to dig deep on race day, he’s helping us build a better Leadville”.

As the Dream Chaser has become more popular and well known to LT100 MTB athletes, it has garnered donations from fellow racers and supporters from across the country who want to give to the Legacy Foundation.  When asked about his race day, Hall remarked “the ride is tough for me and I really have to focus all day.  But on the flip side the other riders and their crew are pretty excited to see me and encouraging me all the way.” 

This year could be even bigger.  2018 is the 25th year of the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race, the fundraising goal is set for $25,000.  “Any donation amount will help to get us there, but we thought it might be fun for folks donate in honor of the Silver Jubilee year, $25, $250, $2500 amounts” says Veronica Rimbert, Legacy Foundation Executive Director. To add to the excitement, any donation of $250 or more for the Dream Chaser will go into a drawing for a guaranteed spot in next year’s race.  “What if we could celebrate our success by increasing the High School scholarships we award from $1000 to $2500 next year?  It’s an easy challenge to get behind because it can make such a difference to the lives of those kids.  We know they have the potential and we want to help them reach their goals and further themselves through education”.
