THANK YOU LEADVILLE FAMILY!

Your generous donations during this really challenging time have filled our hearts with gratitude and remind us what incredible people we have within our Leadville Family.

We recently received a letter from Ben Cairns - past LT100 MTB racer and Principal at the Lake County High School. Ben asked that we share this letter out with our community of athletes as a way to acknowledge your contributions and ensure that each of you understand the impact of your generosity on our local High School students.

Dear Supporters of the Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation,

As the Principal at Lake County High School and on behalf of the students in our graduating class of 2020, I want to take this opportunity to offer my thanks to the LT 100 Legacy Foundation supporters who have contributed this year.  Many of you have been in our High School gym for an event during the summer, but have no idea what a profound impact your contributions actually have on our students and school community.

As you may know, every LCHS graduate gets a $2,000 LT100 Legacy Scholarship to use for any post-secondary education. This is such a wonderful asset for our community and a well-deserved boost to help our students on their path.  The beauty of the LT100 Legacy Scholarship, is that it is not based on a student’s grades and it can be applied to more than just a 4-year college program.  For many of our graduates it is the only financial aid they will receive, and thankfully it can be used for trade schools, apprenticeships, internships and other ‘non-traditional’ educational opportunities.

Leadville is a unique and wonderful place to live, but we have seen tough times.  COVID-19 has been no exception as many of our student’s parents lost work when the ski area industries shut down abruptly this spring.  The Legacy Scholarships were more appreciated than ever this year as we seek to bounce back from this latest setback.

We really appreciate your investment in our town and students.  We know you enjoy coming here and torturing yourselves in our brutal and beautiful mountains, I do to. But what really makes our races meaningful is the community of racers and your willingness to invest back into our town in such meaningful ways.  Thanks so much for your love of Leadville and support for our students.

See you out there in 2021.
