In the spirit of this togetherness, we’ve joined forces with #GivingTuesdayNow – a chance for people around the world to stand together in unity--to use their individual power of generosity to remain connected and heal. #GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented needs created by COVID-19.
At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on.
The Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation is committed to continuing our support of Lake County High School seniors by providing a $2000 scholarship to every 2020 grad who wants to further their education. And we are providing funding to programs who are helping the local community during this time.
St George's Community Meals & Food Bank – When the Colorado ski resorts closed suddenly on March 15, many of Leadville’s citizens were unexpectedly unemployed. Almost overnight, a talented, creative group of staff and volunteers helped adjust their food programs to include to go lunch and an expanded food bank, with the new food pantry taking over the church sanctuary! In just 6 short weeks St George’s has provided more than 2000 food boxes, providing healthy, nutritious food to over 5000 people in Lake Co. In a mind-blowing comparison - St George’s food pantry gave out 725 food boxes in all of 2019!
Leadville/Lake County Economic Development Corporation - The Legacy Foundation is also providing funds to support the creation of a $30,000 ‘Grant Program’ and the development of a ‘Micro-Loans’ Program providing financial aid and relief to small businesses here in Lake County.
With the recent announcement from the Leadville Race Series of the cancellation of the upcoming June events, and with the uncertainty surrounding the other races this summer, we predict a significant impact on our fundraising efforts this year. #GivingTuesdayNow is an opportunity for our Leadville Family to support the Legacy Foundation – while we continue to support Leadville and Lake Co.
